Each piece created in the studio is shaped with intention and care. This guide offers simple, quiet practices to help your jewellery stay beautiful over time while preserving the materials and craftsmanship that make it unique.
Everyday Care
A few small habits can help your jewellery stay bright and protected:
- remove jewellery before bathing, swimming, or sleeping
- avoid contact with lotions, perfumes, and hair products
- keep jewellery dry and away from prolonged humidity
- wipe metal gently with a soft, lint-free cloth after wearing
- if your jewellery becomes wet, dry it gently with a soft cloth
- keep pieces away from prolonged heat or extreme temperatures
These simple habits help your jewellery age gracefully over time.
Caring for Sterling Silver
Sterling silver naturally develops a soft patina over time. This is a normal characteristic of the metal and can be polished away easily.
To care for sterling silver:
- use a soft polishing cloth
- avoid abrasive cleaners
- store silver in an airtight pouch to slow natural darkening
If your piece darkens, a gentle polish will usually restore its brightness.
Caring for Gold‑Plated Silver
Gold plating is delicate and softens gradually with wear, particularly on rings and bracelets.
To help your plating last:
- remove jewellery before washing hands, exercising, or cleaning
- avoid friction against hard surfaces
- store separately from other jewellery to prevent rubbing
- avoid ultrasonic cleaners, as they can be too harsh for plated metals
If your plating softens over time, this is simply the nature of plated jewellery. If desired, your piece may be replated in the future.
Caring for Solid Gold
Solid gold is durable and well suited to everyday wear. Over many years it may develop a gentle patina, which many people enjoy as part of the character of the metal.
To care for solid gold:
- clean occasionally with warm water and mild soap
- dry thoroughly with a soft cloth
- store separately to avoid scratches
- avoid ultrasonic cleaners if your piece contains a keepsake stone or inclusions
With simple care, solid gold will retain its beauty for many years.
Caring for Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is highly resistant to tarnishing and corrosion and requires very little maintenance.
To care for stainless steel:

- store separately from harder metals or gemstones to reduce scratches
Stainless steel is one of the lowest-maintenance jewellery materials available.
Caring for Your Keepsake Stone
Each keepsake stone is individually hand-formed and holds your inclusions securely within the piece.
Over time, the surface of the stone may develop gentle cloudiness, minor surface wear, or subtle changes in appearance. These are natural characteristics of the material and do not affect the safety of your inclusions.
To help protect your keepsake stone:
- avoid harsh chemicals and cleaning agents
- avoid ultrasonic cleaners
- keep away from prolonged water exposure
- wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth
- avoid dropping or knocking the stone against hard surfaces
- keep away from extreme heat

Caring for Jewellery With Inclusions Beneath a Gemstone
Some pieces are created by placing your inclusions beneath a faceted gemstone rather than within a hand-formed keepsake stone.
These pieces are generally more resistant to surface wear, but they still benefit from careful handling.
To care for gemstone-covered inclusions:
- avoid ultrasonic cleaners, as vibration may affect the setting
- avoid harsh chemicals, which may affect adhesives or settings
- clean the gemstone gently with warm water and mild soap
- use a soft brush only on the gemstone surface, never underneath
- avoid exposing the piece to extreme heat
- store separately to prevent scratches on the gemstone
The gemstone protects your inclusions, but the setting itself still benefits from gentle care.
Storing Your Jewellery
When not wearing your piece, store it:
- in a soft pouch or lined jewellery box
- away from direct sunlight
- separate from other jewellery to help prevent scratches
A safe, dry storage space will help preserve both the metal and the keepsake element of your piece.
When to Remove Your Jewellery
For long-term care, it is best to remove your jewellery before:
- showering or swimming
- applying lotions or perfumes
- exercising or lifting heavy objects
- gardening or household cleaning
- sleeping
- using household cleaning products
- entering pools, hot tubs, or the sea
Chlorine, saltwater, cleaning products, and repeated impact can all shorten the lifespan of jewellery finishes and settings.
